Recognizing and Identifying Domestic

and Homegrown Violent Extremism

In this Hate and violent rhetoric stemming from political, religious, social, and cultural beliefs are not new phenomena, nor is the violence that they may fuel. Indeed, the rhetoric itself is constitutionally protected. The difficulty in combatting violent extremism lies in the many forms it takes, as well as in the rapid evolution of social media as a method of radicalization and recruitment. How does one distinguish the indicators of violent extremism from those of legally protected speech and action while maintaining community safety? Recognizing and Identifying Domestic and Homegrown Violent Extremism introduces participants to different types of domestic and homegrown violent extremism, including indicators regarding violent extremist behavior. During our session, we will discuss the multi-dimensional nature of the problem, and how we as sheepdogs can become the frontline of physical and spiritual defense for our respective flocks.

The Dimensions of Conflict:

Engaging in Spiritual Warfare

The scriptures make it clear that as followers of Christ we are engaged in spiritual warfare. Our safety and security ministries must not focus solely on the physical world at the expense of this struggle. How can we make certain we are prepared for this war on the personal and church fronts? What does the Bible teach us about the battles taking place today.
